OSOT Associate Professors Drs. Ben Mortenson and Jill Zwicker were both recognized with awards from the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) at this year’s CAOT Conference in Whistler, BC.

Dr. Mortenson received CAOT’s 2022 Fellowship Award, which aims “to recognize and honour outstanding contributions and service made by an occupational therapist over an extended period of time.” This award celebrates Dr. Mortenson’s many contributions to scholarship, education, clinical practice, and service, particularly in the fields of assistive technology, social participation, caregiving and outcome measurement. Dr. Mortenson’s contributions in his 31 years as an occupational therapist include his co-development of the Wheelchair Outcome Measurement (WhOM) and his receipt of the first ever SSHRC Partnership Grant led by a member of UBC’s Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Zwicker received CAOT’s 2022 CAOT-BC Outstanding Occupational Therapist of the Year Award, which is conferred to “members living in British Columbia who have made an outstanding contribution to the profession throughout his or her career.” Dr. Zwicker’s contributions to education, clinical practice, innovation, and leadership in occupational therapy, particularly in the areas of paediatrics and neurodevelopmental disorders, span more than 30 years, and they include the establishment of the DCD Clinic at Sunny Hill Health Centre and her DCD Advocacy Toolkit. She received a prestigious Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) last year in recognition of the impact of her research.

Please join us in congratulating Ben and Jill for their achievements.
