The UBC Rehabilitation Sciences Alumni Bursary was first established in 1982 by the Rehabilitation Student Council (also known as the Rehabilitation Medicine Undergraduate Student Society), with a letter writing campaign to BSR alumni*.

This act of initiative from the 1982 student society was prompted by the discontinuation of the government stipend. Prior to 1982, all rehabilitation science students were provided a government stipend, which helped students with the costs of their education. The first bursary of $500 was awarded the next year to the first recipient in 1983.

Currently, the endowed bursary is awarded to four to six students each year (with a total of $6,400), with up to three to Masters of Physical Therapy and up to three to Masters of Occupational Therapy.

Since its establishment, the UBC Rehabilitation Sciences Alumni Bursary has distributed 68 awards in the Masters of Physical Therapy and Masters of Occupational Therapy program totaling $105,215.

The endowment has been a sustainable source of funding for 40 years. At this time, we hope to celebrate this achievement by inviting renewed contributions to the bursary fund, to support students that now pay a yearly tuition of $7,854 to become a much needed healthcare professional.

Please join us in your support of this crucial bursary that has impacted so many students over the years and consider making a donation today.
