“I spoke to many patients who told me what a positive impact their occupational therapy had in their lives and recovery.”

In a recent interview with Houston Today, Carli Wardop, a first-year student in the Northern cohort of our MOT program, shared her journey, learnings, and desire to practice occupational therapy in Northern BC.

“I am proud to be part of this first northern cohort and to represent my hometown as well as the program as I go through school and into my career,” she said when asked about studying in the North. “I was willing to go to Vancouver, but when the northern program came out I was so excited,” she added, as she can stay closer to home and build connections locally.

Carli was first drawn to occupational therapy while volunteering at Kelowna General Hospital during her undergrad years, and she grew further interested while working for two years doing post-injury exercise therapy as a kinesiologist. In Houston Today‘s story, she shares her perspective on the goals of occupational therapy, the range of approaches and career paths that it encompasses, and the importance of community for personal growth.
