After 20 years of leadership of the Department’s fieldwork education program development and delivery, Donna Drynan is stepping down as our Academic Fieldwork Coordinator.

Assistant Professor of Teaching (and former UBC Faculty of Medicine Director for Clinical Faculty Affairs) Alexis Davis has taken the helm.

The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is an important role in the Department, overseeing nearly 500 fieldwork placements each year, and working closely with our dedicated fieldwork educators and their organizations to support our students’ learning experiences.

As with any health profession, placements for trainee occupational therapists are vital for helping to integrate knowledge with practice, and for learning to apply skills from the classroom to the real world of working with colleagues and clients.

We invite all clinical faculty to welcome Alexis to the role, and to thank Donna for her excellent leadership of the program.

It has been an honour to have worked with the wonderful people in our clinical faculty, and to have seen hundreds of students enrich their learning and passion for occupational therapy through their fieldwork placements. It truly is a team effort, and I am so grateful for the time, energy and commitment from everyone I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with.

The fieldwork education program has grown from around 240 placements per year to now over 480 placements as we expand into new sites and locations.

Our fieldwork program is in excellent hands. Alexis has been a great advocate for the program, and has extensive experience as a fieldwork educator. I’m thrilled to hand over the program to such a dynamic and caring leader, who will continue to grow the opportunities and important relationships we have with the wider OT community.
