The Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy has been working on a scheme to support new ideas and innovation in the clinical community.

There are many ideas that may spark or arise during the working day of an OT. Perhaps you’ve experienced this yourself: a curiosity about a new technology with a potential application in your specialism or unit, or a desire to research a topic and bring back learnings to your team.

What if you had the time to actually sit down and dig deeper into that idea? Put your thoughts together in a cohesive way, research what’s been done previously and maybe even find a solution to a challenge that you and your team encounter regularly?

The Mentored Clinician Partnership Program aims to pair working OTs with faculty members to share skills and support you to work on a piece of research or a mini project to improve your client outcomes.

Working with your mentor, you could apply for up to $5,000 to cover your release time and your expenses, so you have the time and headspace to capture insight from your experience, research a topic, or explore a solution to a challenge.

Previously funded projects include:

  • A literature review of 3D printing technology
  • A report on possible applications of Virtual Reality (VR)
  • Research into skin tone bias
  • A study into the effectiveness of an Individualized Community Program (ICP)

We are now accepting applications for the 2024-25 funding cycle. OTs working at Vancouver Coastal Health or Fraser Health authorities are currently invited to apply.
